Chemical light for airsoft, outdoor, and emergency situations
Chemical light, also known as lightstick, glow stick, luminous or light stick, is a simple source of light that works without batteries, charging, or electricity. It is used in airsoft games, hiking, camping, fishing, sports events, marking trails, and as part of emergency equipment.
Chemical lights are lightweight, compact, and easy to carry in a backpack, tactical vest, or first aid kit. They are available in various sizes and colors, allowing individual lightsticks to be used to distinguish people, teams, stations, or equipment.
How does a chemical light work?
Inside the lightstick, there are two separate chemical components. By bending the stick, the internal ampoule is broken, and by shaking it, the components mix. The chemical reaction begins to produce light, without the need for any external power source.
Once activated, the chemical light cannot be turned off or reused in a standard way. The intensity and duration of the light depend on the specific model, color, and ambient temperature. Cold can slow down the reaction and reduce the immediate light intensity, while higher temperatures can speed up the reaction.
Chemical lights for airsoft
In airsoft, chemical light can be used to mark team members, the leader, an eliminated player, the base, respawn, game item, or a dangerous area. A lightstick is also suitable for marking the entrance to a building, staircase, or obstacle during a night game.
Specific colors can be assigned a particular meaning in advance. For example, one color can mark a team, another a medic, and another a completed task. However, color coding should always be agreed upon before the game starts, as the meaning of colors is not universal.
Depending on its design, the chemical light can be attached to a tactical vest, backpack, or another part of the gear. For repeated electronic marking, marker lights are a suitable alternative.
Use in hiking and camping
During outdoor activities, chemical light can be used to mark a tent, campsite, luggage, or part of a trail. It also helps to mark equipment so that it is more easily visible after dark. Thanks to its low weight, it does not take up much space in a backpack or bag.
Chemical lights are a practical addition to survival equipment, car gear, or an emergency kit. They are primarily used for orientation lighting, signaling, and marking. For safe movement in complete darkness, it is advisable to combine them with a more powerful headlamp, while for lighting a tent or campsite, lanterns and other lights are more suitable.
How to choose the right lightstick?
When choosing a chemical light, consider its size, color, expected lighting duration, and intended use. Larger sticks are suitable for visibly marking stations, trails, and equipment. Smaller chemical lights can be conveniently carried on gear or used to distinguish small items.
The meaning of individual colors depends on the chosen marking system. Green, yellow, and white lights are often used for general marking and orientation, while red or blue versions can help distinguish teams, tasks, or specific stations.
Store chemical lights in their original intact packaging in a dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Open the packaging only just before use to prevent damage or unintended activation of the stick.
