The Starker type protective mask was made of metal mesh what allows to gain a proper face protection against 6mm BB pellets. This solution guarantees good air circulation what limits the gathering of steam on the means of eye protection. The third generation masks are equipped with an extended protective surface of the areas surrounding the ears, they are also equipped with  enhanced mounts and an additional layer inside of the mask which prevents from irritation.
