The knife is small enough to wear as a keychain, but large enough to be helpful in everyday use. Despite the small size, the pocket knives are fully functional. A special chrome-molybdenum steel is used for the blades of the Victorinox knives. After hardening, the Victorinox knives have blades with a hardness of 56 HRc. Wood saws, scissors and nail files, have a hardness of 53 HRc, screwdrivers, can openers and awls 52 HRc and corkscrews 49 HRc. Metal saws and files are hardened and hard chrome plated so they can file iron and steel.
